Arabica coffee from Virunga Originas. It is full and dark with notes of pipe tobacco, cedar tree and roasted hazelnuts.
The coffee is both grown, harvested, roasted and packaged in DR Congo, which is rare! It creates extra income and work in the area around Virunga National Park, which has been heavily affected by both conflict, poverty and diseases, with both Ebola and Corona.
The more than 6000 farmers grow the Bourbon and Rumangabo varieties in the nutritious volcano-soil and de-shell the coffee by washing off the fruit pulp, which insures the best quality. They are organised in two cooperatives, Kawa kanzururu on the western side of the Rwenzori mountains and Coopade in the highlands northwest from the Edward lake. They are being supported by Virunga Origins and the Virunga National Park, and are guaranteed a fair price. The production is being certified by Rainforest Alliance.
