Quirky and beautiful plush animals from the Virunga National Park in the DR Congo. They can be used both flat as a pillow and assembled with Velcro so that they stand up on their legs.
The plush animals are made by widows of park rangers who have been shot in the line of duty while trying to protect both animals and people in the park. The widows receive an income of US $100 per month for working in the sewing workshop and the profit from the sale goes to finance the children's schooling and both the widows' and the children's health expenses.
Around 200 women have lost their husbands due to the armed attacks on and in the national park.
The plush animals are made of cotton fabric with the unique African print. They are safe for children.
